Here are some case studies

of completed projects

we are proud to shout about.

Phil’ll Fix It!

Whilst most of our time is spent writing and designing brochures, corporate identities, posters, websites etc., one of our favourite clients is Travelodge who are constantly looking for different, testing ways to enhance and promote their brand.

Over the past 7 years this has involved CSC sorting out props for corporate events (including false body parts and confetti cannons –to name but two) supplying branded chocolates and repackaging plant seeds. More recently producing the Travelodge ‘Cuddillow’ – a branded pillow with arms to cuddle and keep you warm, together with his & hers pyjamas proved to be an interesting experience.

Whilst the more ‘run of the mill’ items such as trophies, ‘t’ shirts, balloons and sashes are turned round quickly, some more unusual items sometimes take a little longer. Two of the more unusual projects resulted in a 3 metre stick of rock and repackaged and branded sticks of chewing gum and both started with the telephone call enquiring “do you know how to…?” As sweet manufacturers can’t stretch rock mixture for 3 metres without it breaking we had to work out how to construct it, give it the traditional pink colour, label and wrap it and transport it safely to Eastbourne for the launch of the new seafront Travelodge – all achieved with minimum fuss.

On the other hand being involved with an idea so simple as producing sticks of ‘Travelodge Chewing Gum’ was an altogether different proposition and there were some truly ‘sticky’ moments. Discovering that the supply of chewing gum in the UK is a virtual monopoly was a surprise, and then to be informed that there was limited choice of gum.

In fact only one choice as long as it was sugar free. We were then allowed to purchase a sufficient quantity through a wholesaler once we had convinced the manufacturer we didn’t have stalls at all the local markets! Easy bit over and done with, all we had to do was package the sticks for the Travelodge Room Promotion in London.

So with all the card holders printed, an army of people unwrapped the boxes, split down the packets and set about sticking 3 individual sticks of wrapped chewing gum in 1,000’s of printed holders before sending the whole lot down to London. Problem solved and job done in double quick time.

What is the moral of this tale? Requesting what at first may seem to be unusual may not, in fact, be that unusual. This ‘can do’ approach isn’t just reserved for Travelodge and has earned Phil the accolade of being CSC’s answer to Jimmy Saville – as in “Phil’ll Fix It!” - but fortunately without the gold tracksuit, cigar and medallion!
